Charging your management fee

Add your fee to a cost on a home you manage for its owner, and see where it shows up.

If you manage a home for its owner, you can add your fee to a cost you arrange. We record it for you, and it shows on the owner's statement.

Add your fee to a cost

Include management fee appears wherever you record a cost on a property you manage for someone else:

This example uses the first one.

  1. Open the property's Finance tab. Select Tools, then Add transaction, then Expense.
  2. Pick a Category and enter the Amount (£) of the cost.
  3. Leave Include management fee switched on.
  4. Check the £ box beside it. If you have charged a fee on this property before, we fill in the same rate applied to this amount. Type over it to charge something else.
  5. Check Total with your fee, then select Save expense.

The Add expense window with Include management fee switched on, a £24 fee typed, and Total with your fee showing £264

Switch it off and no fee is recorded. Leave it on with the £ box empty and we ask you to enter a fee or switch it off.

What it records

Your fee is saved as its own Management fee expense, linked to the cost it sits on. It shows as Commission on the owner's statement of accounts, and it counts towards Fees earned.

To see your fees, open the Finance page and choose Managed property. The same figure for one home is on its Finance tab under As manager. The page total also counts fees on buildings you manage, so it can be higher than one home's. Open an owner's row to see the Fee on their homes. Fees are not part of any tax figure.

The Finance page on Managed property, with Fees earned at the top, then Held for owners, Rent collected and Paid to owners, and Margaret Hale's row open to show rent in £11,600, costs £1,084 and fee £112

If you delete the cost, its fee goes with it.

Running a building for leaseholders?

The same switch appears on a managed building's spending, on its Service charge tab. See The Service charge tab.
